POS hardware

POS hardware that works with Mobius.

Mobius runs on open standards — ESC/POS printers, keyboard-type scanners, HID scales, and Stripe card readers or your bank's own terminal. No proprietary terminals, nothing to lease.

  • No card needed to start
  • Month-to-month
  • Cancel anytime

What plugs in

Six kinds of register hardware, all standards-based.

Receipt printers

Thermal receipt printers connect over USB in the browser, or through the printer's normal Windows driver in the desktop app. Any regular printer works too, via the print dialog.

  • Epson TM series (TM-T88, TM-m30 and similar)
  • Star Micronics (TSP100 / TSP143 and similar)
  • Bixolon, SNBC and other ESC/POS thermal printers
  • Any standard desktop printer via the print dialog

USB-direct printing uses ESC/POS, the near-universal receipt printer language.

Cash drawers

A printer-driven drawer plugs into the receipt printer's drawer-kick port and opens on cash sales. The Windows app can also open an APG USBPro drawer directly.

  • APG, Star, Volcora and most RJ11/RJ12 drawers
  • APG USBPro drawers, driven directly by the Windows app
  • Automatic open on cash sales, plus a manual open button

A printer-driven drawer connects to the printer, not to the computer.

Barcode scanners

Any USB scanner that types like a keyboard — which is nearly all of them — works out of the box. No scanner? Use the device camera.

  • Zebra, Honeywell, NetumScan and other USB scanners
  • Wireless scanners with a USB cradle (HID keyboard mode)
  • 1D and 2D barcodes, UPC/EAN and Code 128
  • Camera scanning on tablets, phones and webcams

Set wireless cradles to “USB HID Keyboard” mode — it's one configuration barcode.

Weigh scales

Sell by weight straight from the register — the scale's live reading flows into the sale line.

  • USB HID point-of-sale scales (the common retail and postal type)
  • Dymo and similar USB shipping scales

Serial (RS-232) scales aren't supported.

Card readers

In the US, in-person payments can run on Stripe Terminal smart readers, with funds going to your own Stripe account. Anywhere else, keep your bank's terminal and record it as a card tender.

  • Stripe WisePOS E and Reader S700 (US)
  • Your bank's terminal, recorded with the last 4 and approval #
  • A Card Batches report to tie out each day

Stripe Terminal needs a US Stripe account.

Label printers

Print barcode and price labels for shelves and bins — one at a time or in batches from your product list.

  • Zebra and other label printers via the print dialog
  • Standard sheet labels on any desktop printer
  • Generated UPC and Code 128 barcodes with price and name

Run it on the computer you have

Unlimited staff on every plan. Starter includes 1 register (2 at most) and Business 3; extra registers are $25/month each.

A Windows PC or a Mac, in the browser

Chrome or Edge for USB hardware support — printers, drawers, scanners and scales.

The Mobius Windows app

Offline cash sales, and it drives the receipt printer, cash drawer and scale natively — no browser needed.

An iPad, Android tablet or phone

The full POS in the browser. Camera scanning and Stripe card readers work; USB devices need a PC.

Switching from an older POS?

Your receipt printers, cash drawers and scanners almost certainly carry over — they speak the same standards. Scanners move from OPOS mode to plain keyboard mode (one configuration barcode), and the built-in Hardware Setup page tests every device before launch day. See how switching works.

Good to know

  • Pole displays and serial (RS-232) devices aren't supported.
  • USB devices in the browser need Chrome or Edge; the Windows app uses your printer's normal Windows driver.
  • The desktop app is Windows only. On a Mac, use Mobius in the browser.
